Butterfly Update #2

Last night the last of the five caterpillars settled himself in, hanging down from the ceiling in the little jar. He pretty quickly curled up, turned into a chrysalis and shed his old skin! I am talking 5-10 minutes!

S and Bob getting ready for the transfer of the chrysalis!
Today we transferred the chrysalis into the main butterfly habitat. They were all attached to a little paper disc underneath the jar's lid, so we were to tape that disc to the lower portion of the habitat. Bob the min pin was paying close attention, maybe he thought there might be treats in that jar...

Could there be some treats in there???

The chrysalis have a natural defense mechanism, if they sense a threat they shake, to scare off potential predators. Looked pretty scary to me!

In their new habitat.

Now they are all settled into their new home. Probably in about a week they should start emerging as butterflies!
